If you submit visual data to machine learning services, whether for training models, generating new content, or simply storing them, it's important to understand that your uploads might be exposed beyond your control. Many AI platforms use uploaded data to improve their systems, and in some cases, images can be accessed, stored, or even reproduced by others. To protect your images, thoroughly review the terms and privacy documentation before uploading. Consider submitting pixelated or reduced-quality variants instead. Machine learning systems can still extract meaningful features from them, but the likelihood of obtaining usable high-res copies diminishes. You can also use synthetic or generated images that mimic your real content, but don’t contain actual personal or confidential information.

Periodically audit your upload history and remove any images you no longer need. Should the provider permit data retrieval, do so periodically as a backup. Finally, stay informed about updates to privacy laws and platform policies—your rights and protections can change over time. While these measures don’t guarantee total safety, but they significantly reduce the chance of your images being misused.
